Today, we are running another installment of the Frugal Fabulous Find’s Cooking on a Budget meal idea. This week I found a great and budget friendly recipe from Kraft, Easy Italian Pasta Casserole.
What I like about this recipe is that it only takes about 20 minutes to make and 20 minutes to bake, has just a few ingredients and can be customized to your family’s likes. This dish also can be frozen and served at a later time. It will work perfectly for your next potluck dinner party.
Ingredients
1 pound extra lean ground beef
3 cups whole wheat penne pasta, cooked
1 jar (24 ounce) spaghetti sauce
1/3 cup grated Parmesan Cheese, divided in half
1-1/2 cups Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
Directions
Heat your over to 375 degrees. Cook penne pasta and drain. Then brown your ground beef in a large skillet and drain grease. Add your pasta to the skillet, the pasta sauce and half of the Parmesan cheese and mix well. Spoon the mixture into a 13×9-inch baking dish and sprinkle the top with the rest of the cheese. Bake the dish for about 20 minutes or until heated through.
Kraft says that you can easily add and substitute meats with this dish. If you would like a vegetarian option substitute 2 cups of Boca Burger ground crumbles. You also could use a pound of ground turkey, chicken or Italian sausage. If you would like to add some extra flavor, add a few cloves of garlic and Italian seasoning when you are browning the meat. Also, adding sliced mushrooms, spinach or both, would be a nice touch. This meal serves 6.
