Bram Stokers DraculaDracula takes place in Transylvania and England in the late 1800’s. The story is told through a compilation of various documents (such as letters, personal accounts, newspaper clippings, and journal entries). The story tells the tale of Count Dracula, a diabolical vampire who lives with 3 seductive female vampires. Their first victim-to-be is a young lawyer who unknowingly becomes  their prisoner. Meanwhile, strange things begin to happen in England. The young lawyer’s wife’s  friend Lucy begins to display signs of anemia. Eventually, others begin to realize that vampires are feasting on her blood. A group of characters organize themselves to slay the vampires. Friendship and support are major themes in this story.

This classic book is full of suspenseful, tense, shiver-inducing moments. The story as a whole is quite complex and gripping. The characters are all interesting and unique. Some are good, and some are evil. This story delves into the psychology behind who Dracula is and why he does what he does. Some people feel that parts of the story seem to drag on at length. Other people feel that it is a compelling story to read through and through. Dracula is written in Old English which may make it more difficult for some people to read. Overall, it is a great, classic Gothic story. It is a perfect read for this time of year. Give Dracula a try and see if it gives you shivers down your spine!
