Everyone needs a little bit of encouragement and goal setting every now and then ~ especially children! As a teacher, I know first hand how important it is to set goals and track the progress consistently to see how hard my students (and myself) worked to achieve those accomplishments. From establishing a good routine (getting ready for bed/school/homework/etc.), eating healthy, studying and test taking tips…all of those are just a few examples of what Progress Cards can help your child/student make “progress” on. 😀

What are Progress Cards?
Do you want to help a child, but you struggle to find the best ways to help? Do you wish you knew what to say, but don’t have the time to read all the parenting books? Do you wonder how to advise your child with bullies, friends, and siblings? Progress Cards could be your answer. Created by Scott Ertl, the co-founder of SHMILY Coins (see my recent review/giveaway here), in 2002. He has recorded effective tips and techniques that have directly helped hundreds of children deal with divorce, friendships, death of a loved one, bullies, etc.
With Progress Cards, you can keep the following in mind:
- Specific ways to feel better (Learn to manage and express anger, fears, jealousy, sadness…)
- Effective (Learn how to get better grades, make money, get stronger, improve self-confidence…)
- Proven (Learn how to get stronger, have more friends, get along better with siblings…)
- Realistic suggestions (Learn to deal with divorce, bullies, testing, death of a loved one…)
- Simple to follow and implement (Daily homework, morning, bedtime routines…)
- Successful tips for 70 areas (Behavior, manners, shyness, focus better, study skills…)
- Download instantly once purchased! (Link is active for 5 days to download or print.)
All Progress Cards can be reproduced, but they can not be altered or sold in any way. The copyright and website information must be included on each Progress Card. You may include Progress Cards in your school and class newsletters. Also, you may add a link to www.ProgressCards.com on your class and school websites, but please do not post specific Progress Cards on your class or school websites. Your licensing agreement only allows you to print them for others and not to share them on the Internet.
Most Progress Cards have 2 sides:
- The front side provides specific skills to choose from for improving a specific behavior.
- The reverse side has bubbles for children to check off when they practice.

Who can use Progress Cards?
Parents use Progress Cards to help children identify and practice specific areas to improve. Most Progress cards have circles on each line to check off as children practice the skills. Progress Cards provide practical suggestions that will help children make progress with their goals.
After all, it is our choices that determine our behaviors, feelings, and thoughts. In those times when we don’t know what to do, consider using a Progress Card to overcome struggles and achieve goals!
Educators (teachers and counselors) use Progress Cards in order to provide practical suggestions when looking for effective ideas.
Progress Cards are excellent for:
- Character Building & Education
- Identifying & Practicing Goals
- Newsletters
- Parenting Displays
- Classroom Guidance lessons
- Individual and Group Counseling
- Tracking Specific Behaviors

My Thoughts
Since most children have been back to school for the past month or longer, I can’t think of a better time than to introduce such a great product for educators, and parents alike.

For this particular review, I was sent a special “Back To School” sampler pack (only available to bloggers), which came with 15 progress cards:
Attendance Tips, Bedtime Routine, Bus Safety, Discover Similarities With Others, Focus & Listen Better, Friendship Skills, Healthy Meals & Snacks, Homework Routine, Learning Attitudes, Morning Routine, Responding To Put-Downs, Sleep Better, Stick Up For Others, Study Skills, and Test Taking Tips.
I also received a copy of the “Progress Book” which has the student focus on one idea/goal and write down: how they have been practicing, give themself a rating, and track it over time in an organized chart.
Since I am not currently teaching, but have several friends who are…I asked them to try out this product in their classroom – and they were all very impressed. My best friend who teaches Learning Disabilites, and my cousin who teaches third grade both had this to say, “The Progress Cards really encouraged my students to stick to a routine, helped them prepare for class, and I have seen tremendous improvements in several areas!”.
I am positive that if I were currently teaching, I would definitely be using this product for every one of my students. Goal setting, and tracking those goals is one of the best ways students learn – all year round! This “back to school” sampler pack was incredibly impressive, and I could definitely see educators, parents and students world wide using it on a daily basis.
