Square One® Organics was developed with Dr. Sai Nimmagadda, a pediatrician and allergy and immunology expert. He wanted “our food” offering to be unblended and mindful of food families. So that is what we (Square One® Organics) did. In each of our 2 ounce cups you will only find one food and some water.
This achieves a few things. First, it keeps the foods simple and basic. Second, it makes intolerance easy to pin point. Third, it helps the child embrace the taste of one food thus most resembling the child’s eating experience when it is time to sit at the table and eat with the family.
Finally, we limited the number of food families being introduced. Dr. Nimmagadda suggests that people may react similarly to foods from the same food families. Check our Food Family Awareness chart.
What is Food Family Awareness?
Food Family Awareness allows for “cautious food introduction” because a child is likely to react similarly to foods in the same food family. Once a food has been introduced without any negative digestive reaction, then parents can introduce an array of foods from that same food family. On the other hand, if a child has an issue with a certain food, then he or she may have issues with other foods from the same food family.
We strongly encourage using a 5-day trial when introducing new foods to your child. By introducing only one new food a day for 5 days in a row, you can more easily identify the foods that agree or disagree with your child’s digestive system. The 5-day trial also helps your child acquire a taste for new foods.

My Thoughts
For this review, Square One Organics provided my family with a 10 pack sample of their Superfood Purees including: Mango, Papaya, Pumpkin (2), Peas, Butternut Squash (2), Broccoli, Quinoa, and Spinach. Since they are a frozen product, they shipped them to me in a cooler filled with dry ice, which kept all the purees in perfect condition (still frozen). They also provided me with 4 beautifully illustrated food journals (for each of the age groups ~ which can be downloaded for FREE by clicking here), which offer guidelines for food introduction while tracking recommended serving sizes, sleeping habits, and formula or breast milk intake. Every child is different, so there’s plenty of space to record new additions to your baby’s unique appetite and daily habits.
I was a little worried at first at how our family would be able to truly “review” these products since both of my daughters are too old to eat baby food…or so I thought! I was happy to learn about the “Cooking with Square One® Frozen Organic Superfoods” information, which provides several recipes that are family friendly, healthy and fun to make. Who would have thought of using broccoli to make cupcakes, or spinach to make the frosting? They even had some great ideas for shakes, smoothies, popsicles, pizza, and more! They also provided some children’s books or activities to do with your children to go along with the snack/meal you created. Very cute!!
Our family loves to try out new recipes and we were very excited to try out the Mighty Mango SUPER Smoothie, which was made with the Square One® Mango & Quinoa cups, as well as Rice Milk and fruit (we used fresh, instead of frozen). They were absolutely delicious and such a healthy and fun way to have “dessert”.
For anyone with children ages newborn and up, I would highly recommend Square One® Organics. They provide delicious, organic “super food” for your baby, and (in my case) family. Each of their (frozen) products is very easy to use, and thaw out (either in the microwave or refrigerator overnight).
