I remember growing up and seeing the Camel and other Cigarette advertisements on billboards, TV and basically everywhere – the same as all companies advertise now to reach the masses.
Not anymore! For those of you that DON’T remember that…well, I’m telling my age 😉
Cigarettes were .95 cent per pack and my high school even had a smoking section where smokers could go during lunch. Yes, really. These days, they are $5 plus per pack and you can rarely find a location that allows smoking – even outdoors!
It wasn’t until the first lawsuits against tobacco companies (1998 – 2001) for wrongful death, injury, or medical expenses related to cigarette smoking and other tobacco use ,that they were forced to payout millions and then required to put a warning label on cigarettes. Around that time, their “smoke this brand” tobacco ads and commercials were REQUIRED to be replaced with their own self funded version – the National Public Education Foundation, dedicated to reducing youth smoking and preventing diseases associated with smoking.
If cigarettes were a new product invented today, the FDA would definately not approve them and allow them to be sold to consumers. Addiction to nicotine is the same as addiction to any drug, and now has become just as costly to support. I speak from experience and one too many times of trying to quit.
There are now so many resources available to help smokers kick the habit. One of the best support based resources is the FREEBecome and EX Plan.
The EX Plan is a free quit smoking program that helps you re-learn your life without cigarettes. Before you actually stop smoking, they aim to show you how to deal with the very things that trip up so many people when they try to quit smoking, so that you’ll be more prepared to quit and stay quit.
EX is a whole new way to think about quitting smoking – it’s about re-learning life without cigarettes.
If you’re a smoker and have been planning to quit – whether for financial reasons (a budget buster to the tune of $50 + per week), be sure to check out EX …maybe it will stick this time 😀

Who’s Behind EX?
EX is brought to you by Legacy, a national non-profit helping people live longer, healthier lives. Working in partnership with Mayo Clinic, a world leader in quitting smoking, Legacy developed the EX Plan and the BecomeAnEX website to show people how to re-learn life without cigarettes and quit for good.
After successful pilot testing, EX was launched nationally in 2008. Between 2008 and 2011, the campaign received support from the National Alliance for Tobacco Cessation (NATC) a group of states, non-profit organizations, foundations and corporations brought together by Legacy to help people quit smoking.
