If it’s the second Sunday in May then that only means one thing – it’s time to show Mom how much you love and appreciate her! That’s right, Mother’s Day is upon us once again. This special day celebrates mothers, motherhood, and maternal bonds and honors the special relationship that is responsible for so many positive contributions to our society. Show your mother or wife how much she means to you with a scrumptious Bacon and Ham Quiche.
Initial attempts at establishing the holiday in the United States were to honor the mothers who had lost or were at the risk of losing their sons at war. Mother’s Day became an official holiday on May 8, 1914 when the U.S. Congress passed a law designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. Today Mother’s Day is one of the most commercially successful and popular American holidays. Traditions for Mother’s Day include sending greeting cards, going to church, distributing flowers, and getting together for family dinners.
Family meals can take the place of gift giving in many mothers minds. While I don’t advocate forgoing gift giving on Mother’s Day, I do want to stress how important it is to get together with your mother for a family meal using a special Mothers Day recipe.
