Many people think their everyday actions are ordinary, and that the things they do every day can’t make a difference to help the environment. P&G believes the most effective changes don’t necessarily start with grand acts and can start much closer to home, by changing the way we think about things like waste.
Seemingly ordinary actions – like washing your laundry in lower temperatures, doing the dishes with concentrated products or changing a diaper that uses thinner materials – can be a surprising help to the world we share… allowing us all to reduce waste.
1. Reduce ~ We chose to stop getting the newspaper every week. This cut down the amount of our recycling, and encouraged us to find news via Online.
2. Reuse ~ We used old glass jars to make a window garden in our kitchen. And we also create a TON of crafts with our paper, boxes, bubble wrap, etc. My girls just adore boxes of all kinds, which become beds for baby dolls, or space ships for play time.
3. Recycle ~ We recycle just about everything in this house, including glass, paper, metal, plastic and more. If its recyclable, you better bet that its in our 1 of 3 bins. We are very lucky to have a FREE service through our local trash program in our neighborhood. But even if we didn’t have that, there are so many schools, libraries, and even grocery stores that offer recycling bins and programs.
Our next challenge is to plant a family garden in the back yard, next to our compost pile. I would really love to learn how to grow fruits and vegetables. In fact, we just purchased a couple strawberry plants this past week. My girls are so excited about growing their favorite fruit!! We even have a few sprouting out since we bought them! So exciting!! (Pics coming soon!)
What about your family? Every household can and should experience the everyday effect of reducing waste! How will you make a difference for our world?
