Lately, I’ve been searching for a way to cook frugal, healthy, quick meals that during the week to please my family. I would like to cook even when there isn’t much time for such things. Cooking on a budget does require a little bit of planning. But, it can be done pretty easily if you look around the web. Today, I found a great recipe. Salmon is really healthy for your diet. Many people often avoid it because of the expensive costs of Salmon. The fillet is typically the most expensive part of the fish. So, we’ll use this recipe to cook the collar of the fish which can typically be found for far less than salmon fillets.
You can use inexpensive ingredients from around your home to make the teriyaki sauce. This cuts down on the cost as well. This recipe may be a bit more expensive than dishes we ran in the past. But, we feel it is definitely worth splurging on a dish this good.
24 oz. salmon collar = $3.50 (~$2/lb)
Two green onions = $.50
Other ingredients & spices = $2

Ingredients:
3/4 cup soy sauce
3/4 cup mirin
6 tbsps sake
1/4 cup sugar
24 oz. salmon collar (2-4 depending on size of salmon and cut of collar) or 6 4 oz. fillets
2 green onions, sliced
2 tsps toasted sesame seeds
Mix the teriyaki, mirin, sugar, sake and soy sauce together to produce a marinade (some of these ingredients you may already have lying around your home). Just heat the marinade until the sugar dissolves, and then cool it right away. Marinade the salmon in a ziploc bag for roughly four hours in the fridge. After you are done with marinading the fish, boil the remaining sauce to turn it into a glaze. You will either need to grill or pan fry the salmon for roughly five minutes on each side. Make sure you bast each side of the meat with the teriyaki glaze! Garnish the finished dish with green onions, sauce and sesame seeds. Serves 4. Yum!
