DIY: Make your own shaving cream

Shaving cream for men and women is one of the priciest items on the toiletry aisle and I grimaced each time the item was on my grocery list! So I started thinking and just knew I could find the answer on how to save on shaving cream or even make my own on Pinterest.

And, of course it was there and easier than I ever expected. It’s been said for years that hair conditioner is the perfect replacement for shaving cream for women but men need something a little thicker to hold while they are shaving their face.

Here is the “recipe” I found from A New Leaf to make your own shaving cream (the blog adapted the “recipe” from Reader’s Digest and I just love it!):

  • 1 cup conditioner
  • 1 cup shampoo
  • 5 tablespoons baby oil
  • 5 tablespoons hand cream

Use a large bottle or container to store the shaving cream, pour conditioner in and then shampoo. Add baby oil and then hand cream. Secure the container and then shake, let sit for about an hour. The mixture will last at least a month.

A New Leaf also estimated the cost of the shave cream and in my opinion, you just can’t go wrong here!

Hand cream = $0
Conditioner = $0.25
Shampoo = $0.25
Baby oil = $0.30

Total: $0.80
