My Thoughts

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved Swiss cheese. I am not sure what leaves me craving for more…the taste, the smell, or maybe the holes. Without the holes, those imperfect craters, I wonder what Swiss would be like ~ it really wouldn’t be swiss cheese at all. The authors of The Swiss Cheese Theory of Life ask the same questions, but in retrospect compare those same holes to the obstacles and set backs that we have had to experience in our lives.

As in life, it is the holes or imperfections that give us character. At times, the holes in our lives often appear huge, like craters, disrupting our life satisfaction and happiness. Wouldn’t it be nice if our lives were smooth and predictable like cream cheese? It’s human nature to believe, and even to expect, that our lives will go smoothly and turn out the way we hope. Yet at times, life leaves us unsettled, bitter and stuck in a hole.

Now, some of you may be asking…why would I want to compare my life to a piece of cheese? But this book is so much more than that. The authors do a remarkable job of allowing you to see  yourself for who you truly are ~ a beautiful person, no matter what mistakes or regrets you may have. Everyone has regrets in life, and instead of looking back wishing we could change what happened, this book encourages you to move forward and see that “the grass is greener on the other side”. Each day brings a new lesson to be learned, and a new adventure to complete, and this book allows you to see that moving forward, staying positive and believing in yourself is way to master any challenge.

I have learned so much as a person in my life, and I don’t ever want to stop. As a friend, a sister, a daughter, a wife, a mom and even as a blogger, each day brings a whole new set of experiences that I don’t ever want to miss. For better or for worse, you need to live your life to the fullest and not be afraid to love yourself. In The Swiss Cheese Theory of Life, you will laugh, learn, and see yourself in a whole new light.   I absolutely loved this illustrated “self-help” book. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, ages high school and up. This would be a perfect book to give to a new graduate, a newly wed couple, a divorced friend, someone looking for a job, or even a stay at home mom (or dad) like me.
