How to Fix a Scratched Disk With a Banana

All of us have old DVDs and CDs that are scratched and won’t work properly, which I discovered in my car this week. But, how can we fix a scratched disk without spending a lot of money? I had about 20 damaged CDs and knew there had to be a frugal remedy out there. I found a post from that suggested using a banana!

Guess what? It worked! I couldn’t restore all of my scratched CDs, but about half are in working order again. Below are the directions for you to try at home!

How the Banana CD scratch remover will fix a scratch disk

What you’ll need:

  • A banana
  • A banana peel
  • Some glass cleaner
  1. Take a CD / DVD that has smudges and minor scratches on it.
  2. Using a circular motion, apply a freshly cut banana to it.
  3. Next, wipe it down with the banana peel (the inside). The wax from the peel will help polish and further clean the disk.
  4. Take a clean cotton cloth and wipe the entire surface of the CD / DVD. Be sure to apply moderate pressure while moving in a circular motion. This should be done for around 3 to 4 minutes.
  5. Finally, spray the DVD with glass cleaner and wipe clean.
