It is nearly August, and summer will soon be coming to an end. Before the kids head back to school, why not take some fun, inexpensive day trips or participate in a few fun, free events? Fun things to do in New York City in August
On Saturday August 1, you and your family can take part in a FREE lantern ceremony at Brooklyn Bridge Park Empire Fulton Ferry in Brooklyn along the East River at 4:00 PM. You can make your own lantern and then release it!
On Sunday August 2, you can head to Clove Lakes Park Forest Ave., Victory Blvd, Staten Island NY 10301 at 4:00 PM to attend a fun Summer Stage family day! Enjoy the music and dance with your family! The best part- this event is FREE!
On Tuesday August 4, you can take your family to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for FREE! Visits to the Botanic Garden a free on Tuesdays throughout the summer.
On Thursday August 6, take your kids to Union Square Park’s summer activities for children. From 10:00 AM -10:30 AM, children can participate in yoga with Karma Kids. Be sure to bring your own yoga mat! From 11:00 AM -12:00 PM, your children can participate in a fun story time art class! If you stick around from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, you and your family can watch the old Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Don’t forget to bring a blanket to sit on!
On Saturday August 8, you and your family can attend the Brooklyn Music Festival for FREE! However, you must get tickets and they are running out quickly.
On Saturday August 8 or Sunday August 9 you can attend the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival. Admission is free!
On Friday August 14, head to the Bayswater Park Bay for a fun, FREE water festival! There will be tons a fun activities and treats for kids!
On Sunday August 16, you and your family can go to Marcus Garvey Park from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM for a fabulous fun evening of music, dance, and acrobatics! Admission is FREE!
On Monday August 17, gather your Frozen fans and head to Randall’s Island Park by 8:00 PM! You can watch Frozen under the stars for FREE!
On Wednesday August 19, you can take a trip to the Staten Island Zoo between 2:00 PM and 4:45 PM and admission will be FREE.
On Saturday August 22, gather your family and head to the Blues BBQ Festival at Hudson River Park starting at 2:00 PM.
On Sunday August 30, make your way to the annual Brighton Jubilee Festival. There are tons of fun activities and events that are family-friendly. Admission is free, but if you want to purchase food be sure to carry some money with you.
