Halloween is just around the corner and from the school parties, pumpkin carving, costumes and other accessories; the holiday can get expensive! I am always trying to save money around the holidays and Halloween can be frugal, too! I’ve pulled together a few savings tips on how to make Halloween a frugally fabulous holiday! Who knows. They may come in handy for you this Halloween.
I came across a great blog called TipmanTim. He explains that one of his favorite tips for Halloween is a method for removing permanent marker from skin in case your child writes on himself during the holiday. When he was on a radio show, a mother called in and said that mayonnaise takes permanent marker right off. Being the skeptic that he is, he tested it out and drew on his face with permanent marker. The remedy DID work. He also found that WD-40 works. Bur, Tim doesn’t recommend it as it irritates the skin and could be highly dangerous.
MoneyCrashers also has some great tips to save money while preparing for Halloween:
- Buy pumpkins the day before Halloween. They will be half priced and you won’t have to worry about them rotting.
- Don’t go out and buy expensive Halloween decorations. The site suggests using everyday items like cereal boxes to decorate the house. You can spray paint the cereal boxes black or gray to create your very own cemetery in your yard. Also, here’s a tip even I didn’t know about: you can use old quilt padding to make cob webs instead of buying them.
- Instead of spending tons of cash on throwing a Halloween party for your kids, why not play a game.? You could try a video or photo scavenger hunt. Kids really love these things. Make an interesting list, of course, that is Halloween themed. Then, send your kids on a hunt around the neighborhood.
