Every day, 160,000 kids skip school because they are afraid they will be bullied. Every 15 seconds a woman is beaten by her husband. And to add outrage, 97% of rapists will never spend a day in jail. Its scary to think about the world that we live in, but in reality: hate, crime and violence occurs anywhere and everywhere.
That is where ICE Black Box comes into play. The creators were motivated to fight these alarming statistics, and make this world a safer place through technological empowerment. In a nutshell, this app is an emergency device for the individual in jeopardy. It can stream audio, video, and GPS information to a secure server acting as a silent witness.
I had the opportunity to try this app, and was very pleased with how easy it was to use. Simply add your emergency contacts (i.e., mom, dad, your spouse, etc.) and take a video anytime you are in harms way. It will automatically tape/record and send the recording to your emergency contact (s). It is very quick, safe and discrete. It stores each “incident” by date and time, and provides a “share” button by email or SMS.
Here is a little more information about the company and its app:
- ICE BlackBox is an anti-abuse organization who has developed a revolutionary mobile app to fight bullying, rape, and other forms of abuse.
- ICE Blackbox will provide anyone the ability to remove the element of anonymity from the attacker. Once launched, the app streams video, audio & GPS information to their secure vault. This evidence is available to the victim and the victim’s ICE contacts (a personal list of In Case of Emergency contacts). It cannot be deleted, this is to protect the victim from being forced to delete the recording.
- If the victim feels the attack is imminent, he/she can launch the app point it at the attacker(s) and tell them “I Have You on ICE.” At that point, the attacker(s) have a decision to make. Continue the attack with the knowledge that their face and voice are now on a secure server to be used in a court of law or turn around and walk away.
- If the awareness of this app and the movement truly reaches all, this will definitely help deter attackers from completing an attack.
- If the attacker decides to continue the attack, the victim can click on the 911 icon and the app will dial 911 and at the same time send a message to your ICE contacts with a link to your video and your exact GPS location.
