How To Make Your Own Homemade Baby Wipes

My younger sister was pregnant with her first baby and she wanted to use cloth diapers instead of expensive baby wipes. The entire ordeal basically taught her an I how to make your own homemade baby wipes. I actually didn’t know you could even make your own baby wipes! Did you?

Baby wipes and diapers are one of the largest expenses when you have a baby. Any way to be frugal can rack up huge savings. Of course, I welcome savings when I have an infant!

The idea of homemade baby wipes intrigued me. So, I started researching how to make your own homemade baby wipes. I found great instructions on the OurOutOfSyncLife.com blog. I’ve included the instructions below from the blog. You’ll need paper towels, hot water, baby shampoo, baby oil and a round canister.

1.  Cut a paper towel roll in half. You’ll have two shorter rolls. The blog suggests precutting several of these short rolls at a time since the cutting process makes a mess to clean up. You also can use an electric knife if you have one nearby
2.  Place one short roll inside a round 3 quart container with a lid. You’ll use this container as the canister.
3.  Combine the ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cup hot tap water
  • 2 tablespoon baby shampoo
  • 2 tablespoon baby oil
4.  Gently pour the mixture over the top of the paper towel roll.  If everything goes accordingly, the liquid should loosen the cardboard center. This should make pulling it out much easier. Carefully pull the wipes in the center of the roll to get the sequence going.
5.  Pull out the necessary amount of paper towel wipes from the center.  Make sure you reseal the container after you’re finished.
6.  If the wipes are too dry, just add a little more water.
You can continue to use these on children who are out of the diaper stage. They work well for cleaning up messy hands and faces when you are on the go. Don’t forget: you can use this recipe to moisten retail baby wipes.
