Pizza Pinwheels Ingredients:
- 1 cup of warm water
- 1 tablespoon of yeast
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of oil
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 2 1/2- 3 cups of flour
- 1 1/2- 2 cups Ragu Six Cheese Pasta Sauce + more for dipping (or a similar pasta sauce)
- 2 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 cups of your pizza toppings (such as pepperoni pieces, sliced peppers, pineapple pieces, thin slices of ham, etc.)
Pizza Pinwheels Directions:
Combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl and allow it to sit for approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Wait until the yeast begins to bubble up. Then, add the salt, oil, and flour. Begin this process with 2 1/2 cups of flour. Add more until the dough sticks to the sides of the mixing bowl. Mix for an additional 3 to 4 minutes, then cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Allow the ingredients to sit in a warm location for approximately 15 minutes. Alternatively, you could skip these steps and use a pre-made pizza dough instead. Next, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare a surface (such as your counter) with nonstick spray and roll the dough out into a rectangle. Be sure not to roll the dough too thin. Spread out a layer of pasta sauce over the dough and then top it with the cheese. You can place your pizza toppings on top of the cheese layer. Then, top the pizza toppings with another layer of cheese (approximately 1 cup). Then, roll the dough up and pinch the ends to create a tight seam. Once the dough is rolled up, slice the dough into 1″ pinwheels. Using a nonstick cooking sheet, place your pinwheels on it. Bake it in the oven for 12-14 minutes. Then, remove it from oven and top it with the remaining 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese. Place it back in the oven for an additional 1-2 minutes. The cheese should be melted and the pinwheels should be a light golden brown color.
