As we inch closer to the holidays, I can’t help but think about my New Year’s resolution that I made for 2011…to become more “green”. For the past two years, I am proud to say that our family has managed to recycle almost every plastic, metal and glass object that has entered our home. Yes, it does take a little bit of work to remind everyone (myself included) that recycling and using eco-friendly products is the way to go…but it definitely is worth it! We only have one Earth, and every little bit of help does count in my eyes.
Something that I never really thought about was…diapers. Did you know that there are more than 18 billion disposable diapers used every year? My Thoughts
For the past couple of weeks my youngest daughter (who is 14 months old), Arwen, has happily been trying out Bambo Nature Diapers. And does she like them? Well, when I asked, and she said “Yep!” 😀
The diapers are incredibly soft to the touch, almost like feeling a fleece blanket. They do a great job of holding all of her “presents” for mommy…and what’s really neat, is that there is a blue stripe up the middle which they call a “wetness indicator” that tells me when she is wet. With it being allergy season I can’t always smell that well these days, and having that indicator is absolutely wonderful!
Something else I really like is that the size of the diaper is displayed on the front, and there are monkeys on them ~ which is my daugther’s new favorite animal. She loves to make the “Oooh oooh, Ahh Ahh!” sound every time we change her diaper 🙂 Its nice to have the size on there since my daughter is in between sizes right now, which lets me know how much she is growing too.
The price for the diapers really isn’t that bad either. I was expecting for these diapers to be pretty expensive, but when I looked them on Amazon, I found that the size 3 were only $68.20 (with FREE shipping) for 128 diapers, and the size 4 were only $70.14 (with FREE shipping) for 150 diapers. I would definitely pay a little extra for these disposable diapers not only because of the quality, but also for the earth friendly commitment that the company has made.
It really is quite scary to think of the numbers of disposable diapers that are used each year (over 18 billion), not to mention the pullups and night time disposables that our big kids may be wearing every night. Wouldn’t it be nice to know if those diapers that your little ones use are biodegradable?
