Are you planning a spring break trip this year? If so there are some ways to save you money AND have a fabulous vacation. Spring Break 2014 travel deals aren’t hard to find but it does take a little work. At all of my favorite vacation spots and rental companies I join the email newsletter to get unadvertised deals and trust me they are pushing them out this year! I’m already getting email deals for 50% off a weeks stay in some places, as long as you can commit now to your summer vacation.
As far as Spring Break goes I wanted to share a few tips on saving big bucks:
— Core spring break weeks this year are March 16 and 23, so if you have flexibility, avoid travel during that time to popular spring break destinations. Fares during those periods rise by about 30%, according to research by Hopper, a travel planning site that analyzes millions of daily airfare searches, according to pnj.com.
— TV personality and savings guru Clark Howard suggests to travel early in the week for the best airfare prices. Monday, Tuesday and/or Wednesday have the best airfares.
— Plan early! Book your trips at least 15 days in advance according to Hopper.
USAToday.com reports that, “sample fares reported by Fly.com: Boston to Orlando averaged $279, up 9% over last year. But flights from Boston to West Palm Beach, Fla., dropped 21% to an average of $220.
Fares between Philadelphia and New Orleans averaged $354, up 32% over last year. But a ticket to Las Vegas was down 40% with average fares at $207.
And fares from Los Angeles to Honolulu averaged $438, down 21%, while tickets to Lihue, Kauai, down 1%, averaged $617.”
If you aren’t flying, one good thing is that gas prices are down from a year ago. CNN reported yesterday that gas is .41 cents cheaper than this time last year.
Of course, let me know if you see any good spring break travel deals and I’ll post them. I will be posting deals on travel in the next few weeks.
