WEDDING ON A BUDGET – DIY WEDDING PLANNER – PART 2 of 10

We get so many emails asking for tips and ideas to save money when planning a wedding. With a little extra effort, planning a wedding on a budget does not have to be a source of stress on your wallet or your sanity.

We’re back with Part 2 of this post series to help give you options for a frugal fabulous wedding. Wedding On A Budget will be a 10 part series filled with lots of DIY tips and ideas that we hope will be helpful to any of you that are planning your own wedding or even helping a friend or family member to plan their big day…down to the very last detail!

( DIY = Do It Yourself! ) Be Your Own Wedding Planner and Save Money – ( Part 2 of 10 Post Series HERE )

There are many benefits to a DIY wedding (acting as your own wedding planner), one of the biggest benefits being the amount of money you can potentially save. Besides not having to pay a planner for their time and service, you get to maintain control over the planning when you do it yourself. Below are the top reasons why couples looking to save money, should plan their wedding on their own.

Planning Your Own Wedding Helps To…

a. Minimize Outside Influences: Outside influence can quickly drive the price of a wedding up. A planner who insists on adding certain elements to the wedding can begin to cost you more money than you planned on spending. It can be difficult when the planner seems to have your best interest at heart. He or she may really be sincere and want the day to be a beautiful for you, but they wouldn’t do it at the expense of busting their own budget. When you opt to go it alone and plan your own wedding, you won’t be constantly presented with new ways to bust your budget unless you find them all on your own!

b. Lower Costs: Not having to hire a pay a planner will save you money of course. Wedding planner fees will vary greatly depending on their experience and what level of involvement they have in your wedding. Location can also have an effect on the cost of your wedding planner. None the less, in terms of payout, you won’t have this expense if you do it yourself.

Ok, so you’re not hiring a wedding planner.

How do you keep costs low while doing it yourself?

Enlist Friends – What if you could have three or four wedding planners, for free?! Of course, you can! Your friends are just as excited as you about your wedding and most of them would be more than happy to help you hunt down reception locations, look for wedding flower deals, shop for the perfect dress and more. That’s what friends are for. Keep it on budget and keep your friends happy at the same time.

Make Deals – One thing that some wedding planners will tell you makes them indispensible is their relationships and ability to get ‘exclusive’ deals with vendors. Don’t let them fool you. Find your own deals. Make a resolve right now to never accept full price. Wheel and deal yourself into a better priced wedding – price is ALWAYS negotiable…you can do it!

Give People Jobs – You’ve got a wedding party, right? Give them jobs. They’ve agreed to be by your side and assist you in this amazing time of your life. Take a little time with this to consider the personalities of your crew. Make sure you assign the right jobs to the right people. There’s no point assigning the booking and planning of your staggette to ‘party all night Rhonda’, that’s probably better left to ‘responsible mom Jane’ while Rhonda heads up the rounding up of guests and being a hostess at the event.

Look For Skilled Guests – Got a guest who makes fabulous cakes as a hobby? Or maybe a cousin who’s a wonderful singer? Why not look for the guests who can contribute in some way to your wedding and ask them if they’d be willing to offer their skill as a wedding gift? That way they save money and so do you!

Many people feel they NEED to hire a wedding planner because they don’t have the first clue how to do it themselves. If you feel that way but want to save yourself the cash then know that you can certainly do this. Thousands of brides and grooms plan beautiful weddings without the help of a planner and they do it without mortgaging the house they’re yet to own. You can too!
