STEPS 4 KIDS DRAWING DVD REVIEW

What was your favorite subject in school? For some children, their favorite subject/class was always what we used to call “the Specials”. Specials would include physical education, music and art. My girls are still too young to be in school just yet, although my youngest will be starting preschool in a couple weeks, so I am not sure what their favorite subject is just yet. But if I had to guess, I would say my oldest daughter is going to love Art. She absolutely loves to color, paint, create and draw all the time. I cannot tell you how many countless folders, drawers and containers we have filled to the top with all of her masterpieces. With that said, we were both pretty excited when Steps4Kids asked us to review their newly released DVD called Steps4Kids to Draw.

In July 2012, Steps4Kids released Steps4Kids to Draw DVD with approximately 90 minutes of video modeling to help emerging artists learn how to draw the shapes, animals, people and things. With four separate sections it helps a wide range of emerging artists, from beginners to more advanced learn and excel at their own pace.

Here is a little more info about each section:

1. Shapes: Designed to help viewers recognize and draw shapes such as a circle, square, triangle, rhombus/diamond, heart, cube and star! Colored graphics and visuals accompany each drawing exercise to reinforce the learning of what the shape is while the viewer also learns to draw each shape. This is my favorite section for my youngest daughter who just turned 2.

2. People: Viewers will be introduced to a variety of different types of noses, mouths, eyebrows and face shapes to help them draw their own faces (5 different kinds). Demonstrations of how to draw profiles are also included as are demonstrations of how to draw basic clothing items (e.g. long and short sleeved shirts, pants, skirt, shoes, laces, etc.).

3. Animals: For animal lovers, the Steps4Kids drawing dvd has four subgroups in its “Animals” section to show ways viewers can draw animals you may see on a farm, in a house, in the water or at a zoo! (Total: 20 animals) My oldest daughter loves this one, and she is 3.5 years old!

4. Things: Things such a bike, car, house, flowers and trees are demonstrated to help viewers learn basic tips on how to draw items commonly seen in their community.

Each section (Animals, People, Shapes and Things) has an “all play” feature that enables viewers to play multiple demonstrations at once but also enables viewers to select each item individually to practice their favorite items!

With over 40 easy-to-follow video modeling items to choose from, I am sure you will be impressed by the clear auditory instructions your child will receive. I could definitely see this 90 minute DVD, which won “DVD of the Year” from Creative Child Magazine (within 2 weeks of its release), being a product that parents and educators alike will utilize on many occasions. I can’t wait to share this video with my Art teacher friends! Some other recent awards include: being selected by renown child development expert Stevanne Auerbach, Ph.D. as one of the “10 Best Audio Video Products” for children in 2012.  Also selected by Dr. Toy as one of the“100 Best Children’s Products for Children.”

All Steps4Kids DVDs are made in the U.S.A., and in my opinion have all been extremely impressive (you may recall the PR I did on their multiplication DVD and their modern manuscript DVD). Their videos would be great for educators, child care providers, parents who home school, or even families wishing to enrich their children’s future.
You can never start teaching concepts too early…in fact, my girls are ages 2 and 3, and already have an interest in learning how to write their names, and learning how to draw. Both of my daughters absolutely love anything to do with Art, so this video has definitely been a favorite to watch over and over again. I just love watching them with their notepads and crayons, drawing along with the video. It is so amazing!
If you would like to learn more about Step4Kids, I would highly suggest checking out their website and liking them on Facebook. Sometimes they have great coupon offers which can save you quite a bit of money! Also, for those of you who are interested, you can get FREE printable worksheets from their site as well. Perfect for those with students in elementary school (ages 1st grade and up) who could take the time to practice each night after reading.
